RIVERSIDE, CA (February 16, 2021) – Monday night, Hector Cardenas, 31, died in a hit-and-run accident on Jurupa Avenue and Essex Street.
 
At 7:45 p.m., the Riverside Fire Department came to the scene after receiving a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Moreover, this incident happened at the Jurupa Avenue and Essex Street intersection.
 
When the Fire Department arrived, they located a deceased male lying in the road.
 
Meanwhile, the preliminary investigation determined that a silver Subaru Impreza headed west on Jurupa Avenue, west of Florence Street. Ultimately, the pedestrian was said to be lying and standing in the road in the path of oncoming traffic.
 
As a result, the vehicle hit the pedestrian in the westbound lanes of Jurupa Avenue.
 
Afterward, the Subaru driver drove away from the scene. The driver was last seen driving west to Van Buren Boulevard.
 
Also, the incident shut down Jurupa Avenue to all traffic between Essex and Florence streets during the investigation.
