GUSTINE, CA – One Airlifted in Wrong-Way Head-On Crash at 5 Freeway and Highway 152

Wrong-Way Driver Causes Head-On Collision in Gustine

 
GUSTINE, CA (January 27, 2019) – One person was airlifted following a wrong-way head-on crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of 5 Freeway and Highway 152.
 
The crash happened around 12:31 a.m. involving three vehicles.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, one vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of 5 Freeway near Highway 152 when it collided head-on with two other vehicles.
 
One party was ejected from the crash and an air ambulance was immediately requested to assist. The patient was then flown to a hospital with unspecified injuries and in an unknown condition.
 
All three involved vehicles were towed away from the wreckage.
 
The incident is still on active investigation to determine the factors involved and liability.
 
As drivers, always pay close attention to pavement markings for you to know if you are driving in the right direction or not. Also, when trying to avoid a wrong way driver, swerve to the right. Many of the wrong-way drivers get on the freeways and immediately go all the way to the right side of the freeway, or the fast lane, because they think it is the slow lane. And because they are most likely impaired, they don’t want to get pulled over for speeding. Look up, look ahead, scan the freeway and give yourself time to see the danger coming.
