Gregory Cruz Dies in Wrong-Way Crash on West Santa Ana Avenue [San Bernardino County, CA]

San Bernardino County, CA (June 26, 2023) On Saturday evening, 59-year-old Gregory Cruz of Riverside, died in a wrong-way crash on West Santa Ana Avenue.

According to the Rialto Police Department (RPD), the fatal DUI collision happened around 8:43 p.m. on the 300 block of West Santa Ana Avenue.

Reports say that 48-year-old Jose Saavedra-Escoto of Bloomington, was on a westbound white Ford F-150 pickup truck that veered into the opposite lane and collided with a white Chevrolet Lumina driven by Cruz.

Rescuers say that Cruz suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital where Cruz succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead. Meanwhile, Saavedra-Escoto suffered minor injuries and was also transported to a hospital.

Authorities later arrested Jose Saavedra-Escoto and booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Officials say that “Saavedra-Escoto was suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.”

Police are investigating the fatal DUI collision.
