Lawrence Washington Arrested after Fatal Collision near Iowa Avenue
RIVERSIDE, CA (October 13, 2018) – A good Samaritan was killed in a DUI Crash on 215 Freeway, early Saturday morning. The deceased victim’s name and place of residence were not immediately disclosed, pending notification of next of kin.
According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 12:45 AM, near Iowa Avenue.
As per reports, two vehicles collided in the roadway, resulting in one of them to overturn. Two good Samaritans that witnessed the crash stopped at the scene to assist the people involved in the accident, helping the driver of the overturned vehicle out of the car. They then began to use flashlights to divert other drivers on the road around the wreckage.
A Dodge Dakota on the highway drove onto the right shoulder of the freeway and struck both people, one of their vehicles, and the overturned car from the initial collision.
Both good Samaritans, the driver of the overturned vehicle, and the Dodge driver were taken to local hospitals with major injuries. One of the good Samaritans succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. There is no update on the other patients’ medical conditions.
The driver of the Dodge, who police suspect was driving under the influence, was arrested but remained hospitalized. He was later identified as Lawrence Washington of San Bernardino. No further details have been disclosed to the public at this time as the investigation continues.
