56-Year-Old Woman Hospitalized after Chain Reaction Crashes at Milepost 29.7
VANCOUVER, WA (May 1, 2018) – A 56-year-old woman was injured in a three-vehicle crash on the 205 Freeway at Milepost 29.7, on Tuesday morning.
The multiple vehicle collision occurred at around 6:31 AM in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 205, at Burton Road. 35-year-old Benjamin J Root of Vancouver was driving southbound on the freeway in a maroon 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, when he rear-ended a green two-door Honda Civic.
The Civic was then pushed into a gray Ford Escape because of the impact. Emergency dispatch logs show multiple agencies responded to the crash, and that all three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
The driver of the Ford Escape, 56-year-old Glynda Cox, was injured and rushed to the Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. She was treated and released.
Responders were able to clear the scene in 30 minutes, but traffic officials first stated that traffic was backed up to Highway 500 with delays. Investigators believe that Root was speeding and not paying attention before the crash occurred. He may face speeding and distracted driving charges.
