8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Brutal Auto Accident on Brawley Avenue and State Route 86 [Imperial County, CA]

1 Dead in Imperial County Traffic Crash on Brawley Avenue and State Route 86

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (March 6, 2025) – Tuesday morning, an 8-year-old girl died in a brutal auto accident on Brawley Avenue and State Route 86.

The incident occurred at about 11:05 a.m. on Brawley Avenue, near a posted stop sign on State Route 86, near Salton Sea Beach.

Police reported that a Chevrolet was stopped at a sign when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver moved into the direct path of a northbound 2011 Toyota Highlander traveling at approximately 65-70 mph.

The front of the Chevrolet collided with the right side of the Toyota, causing it to overturn.

An 8-year-old girl, a passenger in the Toyota, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Toyota’s driver, a 38-year-old woman, and another passenger, a 2-year-old girl, sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

The Chevrolet’s driver and a passenger were not injured.

Police determined that the 8-year-old girl was the only occupant from both vehicles who was not restrained.
In response, CVUSD issued a statement, saying, in part: “This loss is deeply felt by our entire school community, and we understand the emotional weight it carries for all of us.”

The California Highway Patrol also reminded the public that regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to reduce injuries and fatalities in motor vehicle collisions.
