Kia Driver Injured in Moreno Valley Fatal Collision

Moreno Valley, CA (January 23, 2023) – At about 10:20 p.m. on Friday, Gina Herrera, 47, of Westminster, Colorado, sustained fatal injuries in a 60 Freeway collision.

Officer Ben Bolon said Herrera was driving an eastbound Honda Civic on the freeway at Jack Rabbit Trail at an unconfirmed speed in the No. 2 lane. Suddenly, her vehicle and a Cadillac CTS driven by a 20-year-old Moreno Valley woman in the fast lane collided.

The impact of the crash propelled the Honda onto the eastbound freeway and was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound Kia Niro in the No. 1 lane.

Unfortunately, Gina Herrera died on the impact.

Riverside County Fire Department rendered treatment to the Kia driver, a 44-year-old Palm Springs woman, and rushed the victim to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley. The Kia driver remained in serious condition Monday.

The Cadillac driver, on the other hand, did not sustain injuries from the collision.

Meanwhile, the authorities said it has not been identified whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. Also, the investigators have not yet determined who was at fault. CHP said neither the Caddy nor Kia driver was speeding.

The parties were interrogated but the authorities have not arrested anyone as of yet.
