38-Year-Old Gilbert Amaro Killed in Collision on Avenue J [Lancaster, CA]

Lancaster, CA (April 9, 2025) – 38-year-old Gilbert Amaro was killed in a collision on Avenue J late Monday night.

The fatal crash happened around 11:40 p.m. at the intersection with Hanstead Avenue.

Officers said Amaro was walking northbound across Avenue J outside of a crosswalk when a westbound sedan on Avenue J struck him and fled the scene.

Afterward, a Toyota Camry traveling west on Avenue J struck the victim, who was in the roadway. 

Sadly, Amaro was declared dead at the scene.

The Toyota Camry driver stayed and cooperated with the investigation.

Meanwhile, officers said it is unknown if speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in the fatal collision.

Anyone with details regarding this accident was asked to call traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.
