1 Hospitalized after Santa Maria Pedestrian Accident
SANTA MARIA, CA (March 20, 2019) – A Santa Maria male resident sustained injuries in a crash involving a pickup on March 18 along Highway 101.
The CHP revealed that at about 5:18 a.m., they received a report of a man walking on the center divider. The incident occurred on Highway 101, south of Main Street.
By 6:40 p.m., multiple calls reported that a man kept walking on the southbound shoulder of Highway 101, north of Stowell Road.
According to reports, before the officers’ arrival, 32-year-old George Whiting walked “directly into the path of traffic and was struck by a pickup.”
CHP units, passing motorists, and medical personnel all came to the area to give Whiting medical attention.
CHP revealed that Whiting sustained a broken arm and abrasions to head. Furthermore, paramedics transported him to Cottage Hospital.
Meanwhile, authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision.
Apparently, on Monday, Whiting reportedly walked away from the Del Mar Group Home in Orcutt. Authorities listed him as a missing person.
