DUI Driver Involved in Fatal Accident near La Cholla Boulevard

 
TUCSON, AZ (January 1, 2020) – Authorities confirmed that Geoffrey Velez was killed Wednesday morning in a pedestrian accident on Fountains Avenue.
 
According to the police, the incident happened near La Cholla Boulevard at approximately 6:15 AM.
 
Reports from Pima County Sheriff’s deputies revealed that 20-year-old Velez was hit by a car driven by 30-year-old Maurice Williams.
 
The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of La Cholla Boulevard while clearing operations were performed. However, the area has since reopened.
 
Williams was arrested for manslaughter and driving under the influence. He was also booked into Pima County Jail.
