Former Costa Mesa Mayor Involved in DUI Crash near Skosh Monahan’s

COSTA MESA, CA (November 26, 2018) – A DUI driver was arrested Monday afternoon following a hit-and-run crash on Newport Boulevard. The suspect was later identified as Gary Monahan, a former Costa Mesa mayor.

According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 12:30 PM. A vehicle was parked near Skosh Monahan’s when it was hit by a 2006 Ford Mustang.

Monahan fled the scene but was later arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor hit-and-run while driving under the influence. At about 7:00 PM, the former civic leader was released from custody with an agreement to appear in court. No injuries were reported by the authorities.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the events that led to the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
