Street Race Leads to Fatal Collision near Campus Park Drive
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 19, 2018) – On Friday evening, one person was killed in a car crash in the 4300 block of Old River Road. The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Gary Josan of Bakersfield.
According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 9:41 PM, near Campus Park Drive.
As stated in an initial assessment from the police, Josan was driving his 2014 BMW, which might have been involved in a street race with an unidentified motorcyclist. Under unknown circumstances, his vehicle crashed and burst into flames on impact.
He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by responding medical staff. Police officers did not have any other details about the motorcyclist.
Speed was considered a possible contributing factor in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
