Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Loses Leg after Accident near North Formosa Avenue
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA (August 3, 2018) – A man was seriously injured on Friday, following a hit-and-run crash on Fountain Avenue. The victim was later identified as 25-year-old Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy, Garrett Rifkin.
As per reports, Rifkin was on a motorcycle headed to work from his home in Santa Clarita when he was struck by a car near North Formosa Avenue. The driver of the car did not stop to render aid and continued driving away from the scene.
Rifkin was transported to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with severe injuries to his foot. After six foot surgeries, the deputy agreed to have his left leg amputated below the knee. Authorities confirmed that the driver responsible for the accident was found and arrested later that evening. Meanwhile, Rifkin has been recovering at the California Rehabilitation Institute in Century City and is expected to get back on duty in six to eight months.
