1 Dead and Several Hospitalized after Las Vegas Multi-Vehicle Accident
LAS VEGAS, NV (September 23, 2019) – A person died while several sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on Cheyenne Avenue.
Officers responded to West Cheyenne Avenue and Soft Breezes Drive, near North Buffalo Drive, about 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 22, Metro Lt. Brian Boxler revealed.
According to the police, a 2019 Tesla Model 3 drove at a high speed while heading east on Cheyenne Avenue. The Tesla then drove through a red light at Soft Breezes Drive and struck a 2018 Honda CR-V making a left turn onto South Breezes Drive.
The impact broke off the Honda’s wheel assembly, motor, and transmission.
Debris scattered southeast into a 2002 Chrysler van stopped at the intersection.
The Tesla then spun toward the southeast corner of the intersection and struck four pedestrians sitting on a low retaining wall.
Two of the pedestrians sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old male pedestrian sustained critical injuries. The other pedestrian didn’t suffer any injury.
Responders transported the two Honda occupants to University Medical Center in critical condition. However, the 62-year-old female passenger died at the hospital. Meanwhile, the 70-year-old male driver stayed at the hospital fighting for his life.
Police also confirmed that the Tesla driver, 32-year-old Gabriel Haas, also went to UMC. He is under investigation for impairment.
