Francisco Rivas Dead, Five Hurt after Suspected DUI Crash
NORTH HILLS, LOS ANGELES (June 17, 2019) – A driver identified as Francisco Rivas died after an alleged DUI collision on Sunday, June 16.
The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. in the area of Haskell Avenue and Parthenia Street.
Officers discovered two wrecked vehicles at the scene. Los Angeles firefighters stated that at least one person was trapped in one of the cars.
Police said that they are searching for the female driver of a white Lexus carrying four passengers. She reportedly ran a red light at Haskell Avenue.
The Lexus crashed into a black Nissan, killing the driver and severely injuring the passenger. Officers identified the deceased victim as 48-year-old Francisco Rivas.
The driver of the Lexus went out of the car and allegedly fled the area. She left her severely injured passengers.
Detectives discovered numerous open cans of beer in the crashed Lexus. They said that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the incident. Speed was a factor in the crash, investigators said.
Emergency responders rushed five people to the hospital, including one in critical condition.
