Tragic Collision in Mesa: Two Lives Lost in Fiery Highway 60 Crash
Mesa, AZ (September 28, 2024) On Friday morning, 2 people were killed after a fiery traffic crash on Highway 60.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), the fatal crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Country Club Drive, just south of U.S. 60.
Reports say that a fiery four-vehicle crash in Mesa early Friday morning resulted in the deaths of two people.
Mesa fire officials responded to the scene, where they found multiple vehicles involved, including one car engulfed in flames. One of the vehicles, a pool cleaning truck, had spilled chemicals on the roadway, complicating the scene further.
Authorities say the crash began when a white Ford pickup truck failed to stop at a red light, rear-ending a Kia that was stopped at the light along with a Subaru.
Officials say that the impact pushed the Kia into the Subaru, while debris from the collision struck a nearby Dodge pickup truck.
Tragically, two occupants of the Kia were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford pickup truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. DPS suspects impairment as a factor in the crash. The driver of the Subaru was also transported to a hospital, though their condition is currently unknown.
The westbound U.S. 60 Country Club Drive off-ramp has reopened, but traffic is being redirected northbound at the intersection. The Country Club overpass over U.S. 60 remains closed for the ongoing investigation and cleanup.
