CHULA VISTA, CA (July 18, 2019) – A Tesla electric vehicle caught fire after crash on Newcastle Avenue on July 17.
 
The car crashed into the parking lot of a Cardiff apartment complex. According to the Encinitas Fire Department, the driver traveled at a high speed on Newcastle Avenue east of Coast Highway 101. However, he lost control and drove off the roadway at around 2:00 a.m.
 
The Tesla collided into the parking lot of an apartment complex, knocked down a fence, and caught fire.
 
Meanwhile, according to some initial reports, the car collided into the building but it’s unclear whether it damaged it. Firefighters came to the scene and extinguished the fire for several minutes.
 
San Diego County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested the driver on suspicion of drunk driving.
 
Crews stayed at the scene for multiple hours to ensure the Tesla’s battery didn’t flare up again.
