1 Dead in Long Beach Pedestrian Collision on Redondo Avenue
LONG BEACH, CA (February 4, 2020) – A person died in a pickup truck and pedestrian collision on Redondo Avenue on January 31.
According to reports, a pickup truck struck and killed a man who walked across a street against a red light around 7:15 p.m.
A 49-year-old Long Beach man traveled south on Redondo Avenue in a 2020 Ford Ranger just before the crash. He then drove through the intersection at Hill Street on a green light.
“The pedestrian was crossing Redondo Avenue at Hill Street against the red light when he was struck by the vehicle,” police confirmed.
Medical responders transported the victim to a hospital with “major injuries to his upper and lower torso.” He succumbed to his injuries a short while later.
Meanwhile, the driver remained at the scene and helped with the investigation. Authorities also ruled out DUI or distracted driving as factors in the crash.
Authorities are withholding the identity of the pedestrian who died due to pending family notification.
