1 Dead in Escondio Pedestrian Accident on Via Rancho Parkway
ESCONDIDO, CA (September 25, 2019) – A person died in a pedestrian accident on Via Rancho Parkway on September 24.
Motorists first reported noticing the man about 7:10 p.m. walking in the middle of West Via Rancho Parkway near Purer Road. According to them, the pedestrian acted “erratically,” CHP Oceanside area spokesman Officer Mark Latulippe revealed.
Some callers added that it’s hard to see the pedestrian on West Via Rancho Parkway about two miles west of Interstate 15. Highway Patrol officers responded to the area.
Before the officers’ arrival, an Infiniti M35 sedan hit and killed the pedestrian around7:25 p.m., CHP Sgt. Michael Morrin said.
The pedestrian, aging from 18 to 25 years old, wore dark clothing while he walked along the dark roadway. Authorities also didn’t find identification from the victim.
The impact sent the pedestrian’s body in the middle of the road. Some concerned citizens stopped and help the victim. However, the man died at the scene.
The crash led authorities to close parts of West Via Rancho Parkway intermittently during a roughly two-hour investigation. By 9:35 p.m., the road has since reopened.
Meanwhile, the 47-year-old female Infiniti driver stayed at the scene and helped with the investigators. Authorities do not believe that speeding or DUI played a role in the crash.
