1 Dead After Stolen Vehicle Suspect Crashes Into Cars in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 4, 2019) – One person died Wednesday following a multi-vehicle accident involving a stolen pickup at Vanowen Street and Balboa Boulevard.

Around 9 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers tried pulling over a truck linked to a burglary that occurred the day prior.

According to LAPD Capt. Steve Embrich, the 2017 Toyota Tacoma driver reportedly sped up after having been aware of the flashing lights and sirens. When the Toyota ran a red light at Vanowen Street, it struck a Honda, causing a chain reaction collision.

The disastrous crash involved four cars and 10 people, according to the captain.

A woman in her 20s driving the Honda required extrication by fire department personnel. Paramedics immediately transported her to a hospital in critical condition.

Three others – described as occupants of the pickup – sought hospitalization. Per news reports, the driver was among the three transported after he had tried hiding in a nearby McDonald’s.

Following the accident, one patient succumbed to his or her severe injuries. Yet, reports have yet to release that person’s identity.

In addition to those injured, two pedestrian suffered unknown injuries due to flying debris. Police later took the driver into custody and also found a firearm inside the truck.
