REDWOOD CITY, CA (May 11, 2021) – Early Monday morning, a person died in a hit-and-run crash on El Camino Real near Maple Street.
 
According to Redwood City Police, the incident involved a pedestrian and a vehicle. Moreover, the crash happened at around 2:50 a.m. on El Camino Real.
 
Reports revealed that a white cargo van struck and killed a pedestrian.
 
Meanwhile, the crash closed El Camino Real between Maple Street and Roosevelt Avenue.
 
Also, the male suspect in his 40s fled the scene through his vehicle. The white cargo van with major front-end damage drove northbound El Camino Real near Lincoln Avenue.
 
Furthermore, officials advise everyone to avoid the area and to find alternate routes.
 
Later reports confirmed that they detained the hit and run suspect, Carl Hofstetter.
 
Police arrested him and booked into the San Mateo County Jail with charges of felony hit and run and vehicular homicide.
