One Killed and One Airlifted after Rollover Crash near Chalk Bluff Road
NEVADA CITY, CA (July 3, 2018) – A woman was killed Tuesday evening and a man was airlifted following the collision of two vehicles on Highway 20, just west of Chalk Bluff Road. 71-year-old Eve Karoblis-Mabe, of Grass Valley, was later identified as the victim in this incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at 6:52 PM. A 1998 Honda, driven by 50-year-old Rick Caffey, of Grass Valley, was heading east on Highway 20 when his attention was diverted from the road by reaching for an object in his car.
Caffey allowed his vehicle to cross the double yellow lines and entered the path of a westbound 1994 GMC Sierra driven by 71-year-old Edward Mabe, also of Grass Valley. There, the two vehicles collided, sending the GMC to overturn at least once.
Karoblis-Mabe, a passenger in the GMC, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mabe was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center after suffering major injuries. Authorities confirmed that Caffey was unharmed from the collision.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible factors in the deadly incident which remains under investigation. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved loved ones of Eve Karoblis-Mabe. She was a loved member of the IGMA: Miniature Community. We are also wishing for the swift recovery of her husband, Edward Mabe.
