DUI Crash on Highway 101 in San Jose Kills 2 and Injures 5
SAN JOSE, CA (December 1, 2019) – A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI that kills two people and injures several others early Sunday morning in San Jose.
The fatal crash happened just after 4:00 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 near 280 Freeway.
A 21-year-old Esteban Aguilar Jimenez of San Jose was driving a Dodge Charger northbound on Highway 101 at a high rate of speed. He then rear-ended a Nissan Rogue at the intersection.
The impact caused the Nissan to veer out of control and strike a guardrail. The car continued north and came to rest in the far left lanes, the CHP said.
The Dodge also lost control, coming to rest on a dirt divider between the transition road and northbound Highway 101.
As a result, a 61-year-old woman who was seating at the back of the Rogue died at the scene. The driver of the Rogue, a 34-year-old man, died at Regional Medical Center about an hour after the crash, the CHP said. The front passenger was taken to Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Three passengers in the Dodge were also hurt and transported to Valley Medical Center.
Police later arrested Jimenez and booked him in Santa Clara Jail on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The incident remains under investigation.
