3 Injured after Solano County Police Chase Accident on Highway 101
SOLANO COUNTY, CA (May 12, 2023) – Early Tuesday, authorities arrested Ernesto Esquivel after a high-speed chase crash on Highway 101.
At around 3:20 a.m., a Windsor Police Department deputy started following the suspect’s vehicle driving south on Highway 101 near the central Windsor exit. According to reports, they have identified and confirmed that the vehicle had been carjacked and stolen out of Vallejo.
Because of the ‘serious nature’ of the carjacking, the deputy requested backup.
When Sheriff’s Office vehicles responded, the Windsor deputy tried to pull the suspect vehicle over.

However, the chase continued at speeds of up to 115 mph as officers allowed down the highway to Cotati. Then, that’s where the California Highway Patrol officers set up spike strips.
Then, the suspect tried to strike a CHP officer before crashing into the strips.
Afterward, the suspect attempted to drive their slowing vehicle up the brake check offramp on the Cotati grade.
However, they lost control and crashed into a parked vehicle with two occupants inside. The impact left the two with minor injuries. Hence, responders took them to a local hospital.
Moreover, officers arrested the 37-year-old suspect. Then, they transported him to a local hospital for treatment of significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
When deputies searched the suspect’s car, they found multiple pieces of stolen mail from Geyserville and the Dry Creek area of Healdsburg. They also found out that Esquivel was arrested for crimes in multiple other states.
Eventually, authorities arrested the suspect on suspicion of evading law enforcement, possessing a stolen vehicle and property, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Also, a judge increased Esquivel’s bail, from $30,000 to $130,000, due to the “severity” of the case.
