SANTA ANA, CA (July 18, 2020) – Last Thursday, authorities arrested Erik Baumle after a carjack ends with a crash on John Wayne Airport.
 
According to reports, a Caltrans worker sat inside his truck in the Boomers! amusement center parking lot. The area is at 3405 Michelson Drive. However, 31-year-old Erik Baumle opened the passenger door and put his dog into the passenger side, Sgt. Karie Davies of the Irvine Police Department said.
 
Thus, the Caltrans worker went out of his vehicle, unsure if the dog was dangerous. Then, Erik Baumle went into the driver’s seat and escaped the scene. Meanwhile, the Caltrans worker rode a co-worker’s car to chase the stolen truck.
 
They also notified the officers about the incident and found the truck. Afterward, they started a chase and Baumle approached John Wayne Airport. However, because of the truck’s height, it hit the ceiling of a parking garage. Baumle then reversed and attempted to hit an Irvine Police Department vehicle.
 
When Baumle stopped the truck, he stayed inside for around five minutes. Afterward, he surrendered and authorities detained him for suspicion of carjacking, theft of a vehicle, and assault with a deadly weapon.
