47-Year-Old Orangevale Woman Fatally Struck by Car while Jogging on West El Camino Avenue
SACRAMENTO, CA (April 24, 2018) – A 47-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run collision in a crosswalk on West El Camino Avenue and Grasslands Drive, late Tuesday morning.
The first calls reporting the crash involving a female jogger were received around 11:45 AM. Investigators believe that the woman was crossing Grasslands Dr when she was struck by a white pickup truck that did not stop after the collision.
The woman was identified as Ericka Jennifer Hann of Orangevale, and first responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The pickup was described as possibly similar to a Dodge or a Chevy with a camper shell and a loud exhaust, and may have been lifted from its original height. There is currently no description of the driver available at this time. Authorities believe that the driver may not have stopped at the stop sign before hitting the victim and that it is difficult to believe that the driver did not notice he hit something. The truck was last seen fleeing the scene and driving west on West El Camino Ave, and then possibly turned south onto Orchard Lane.
West El Camino was closed for several hours during the investigation and was passable after 5:00 PM. They continue to investigate the fatal collision and search for the hit-and-run driver/ vehicle involved.
The city of Sacramento stated that the West El Camino crosswalk was removed because it did not have traffic signals or flashing beacons. However, the city is replacing the crosswalk next year with added new features.
