Pilot Survives Small Plane Accident near Veazie-Cumberland Road
ENUMCLAW, WA (March 4, 2018) – A accident involving a small plane was reported on Sunday afternoon on the 31000 block of Southeast 392nd Street, just two miles off Veazie-Cumberland Road.
The 50-year-old male pilot called in with engine trouble right before the aircraft disappeared from the radar. He then called 911 after the accident, reporting that he was trapped in the aircraft and could smell gas.
Enumclaw Fire, Buckley Fire, Maple Valley Fire, Black Diamond Fire, Puget Sound Fire, Medic One, and the King County Sheriff’s office all responded to the scene of the crash. First responders arrived at the scene of the crash around 4 PM to find the plane mangled and in multiple pieces, in the wooded area. The pilot, who was the only occupant on the aircraft, was conscious and talking with emergency personnel. He suffered two broken legs and head injuries, and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the pilot started in The Dalles, Oregon and was flying to Paine Field in Everett. The small plane was a Beechcraft BE36; a single engine, fix-winged aircraft that belonged to Systima Technologies, a manufacturing company in Kirkland.
