Two Killed and One Injured in Accident near Salmon Creek Road
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (April 13, 2018) – A fatal accident involving two cars took place on Highway 101, just south of Salmon Creek Road, late Friday morning.
The two deceased victims were identified by the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office as 20-year-old Emely Selina Carreno-Arenas of Eureka and 19-year-old Michelle Segundo of Eureka.
Both women were traveling southbound in a 2007 Honda Civic on Highway 101, driven by Carreno-Arenas, when the vehicle lost control and into the path of a northbound van.
The driver of the van, 69-year-old Marsha Adams of Sedona, Arizona, was critically injured and taken to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital by air ambulance. There is no update on her current condition at this time. Carreno-Arenas and Segundo suffered life-threatening injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
All three people involved in the incident were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours, for investigation and clean up. Officers from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the accident. If you have additional information, contact the California Highway Patrol Garberville Office at (707) 923-2155.
