Woman Killed and Man Hospitalized after Police Pursuit Crash near Highway 216
WOODLAKE, CA (September 13, 2018) – A woman was killed Thursday evening and a man was hospitalized following a DUI crash on Avenue 336. The deceased victim was later identified as 27-year-old Elizabeth Ramirez.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 9:40 PM near Highway 216. Woodlake Police were pursuing a 2010 silver Chrysler 300 when it went through a stop sign at Avenue 336 and collided with a silver Nissan Altima driven by Ramirez.
The impact seriously injured Ramirez, who was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. Meanwhile, the driver of the Chrysler, identified as 23-year-old Luis Cabrera-Ponce, was transported to the Kaweah Delta Medical Center with a broken leg.
Authorities believe that alcohol and/or drugs were involved in the fatal crash. Additional information will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.
