34-Year-Old Eliasib Cortes Vargas Dies in Tragic Crash on South Pleasant Valley Road [Austin, TX]

Austin, TX (June 17, 2025) 34-year-old Eliasib Cortes Vargas was killed after a tragic DWI crash on South Pleasant Valley Road.

According to authorities, the fatal crash happened at around 9:19 p.m. in the 1700 block of South Pleasant Valley Road, near East Riverside Drive.

Reports say that a suspected drunk driver struck and killed a motorcyclist in southeast Austin.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Vargas. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities arrested the SUV driver, 54-year-old Thomas Ajanel Chan, and booked him into Travis County Jail on a DWI charge. Investigators stated that additional charges are pending.
