BONSALL, CA (December 4, 2018) – An El Cajon police motorcycle officer was injured Tuesday morning following a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 15. The identity of the victim was not immediately disclosed to the public.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Camino del Rey, at about 6:30 AM. The uniformed lawman was riding south when he was sideswiped by a silver Ford Fusion.
The officer suffered superficial injuries and did not require hospitalization. He was able to get back onto his motorcycle and continue his commute. Meanwhile, the driver of the Fusion did not stop to render aid and fled the area.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. Investigators are also considering the possibility that the suspect vehicle was stolen recently at a San Bernardino County car dealership. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
