16-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured after Pedestrian-SUV Collision
EL CAJON, CA (April 3, 2018) – A sixteen-year-old Granite Hills High School football player is currently fighting for his life, following a pedestrian collision at East Washington Avenue that occurred on Tuesday night.
The accident took place around 8 PM, when the victim and three others were trying to cross outside a marked crosswalk at E Washington and Waterloo Avenue, when a white 2016 Toyota Rav4 hit him.
According to Michael Mettler, one of the three friends who was crossing with the boy, the impact from the collision was so forceful that it sent the victim almost 30 feet away from where he was hit. He stated that they believed they had a lot of time to make it to the other side of the road safely.
A nearby resident, Laura Donathan, rushed to the scene as soon as she heard the collision. The boy was found unresponsive while another person attempted to save him with CPR, which helped with his breathing. The victim was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where it was determined that he had sustained life-threatening injuries.
The Toyota Rav4’s driver stopped at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the investigators. E Washington Ave was also shut down as the authorities continued with the case. Drugs and alcohol are believed to not have played a part in the collision.
