45-Year-Old Cyclist Fatally Struck by Vehicle Involved in Road Rage on Ramona Avenue
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (June 4, 2018) – A bicyclist lost his life Monday evening after he was struck by a vehicle that was possibly involved in a road rage incident. Authorities identified 45-year-old Efrain Garcia as the victim in the crash.
According to the San Bernardino Police, the collision took place around 7:00 PM. A blue 2003 Infinity, driven by 32-year-old Rosendo Ortiz of San Bernardino, and a black 2000 BMW, driven by 28-year-old Karina Saucedo, also from San Bernardino, were both heading east on West Fifth Street. The drivers became involved in a heated road rage incident for undetermined reasons.
As the drivers entered the intersection with Ramona Avenue, Ortiz struck Garcia’s bicycle as he was crossing the street. Saucedo spotted and swerved in attempts to avoid the cyclist, striking a nearby parked car instead.
Garcia sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency repsonders. Both Ortiz and Saucedo were reportedly unharmed and stayed at the scene to cooperate with the investigators.
The police stated that the drivers might be facing possible charges after forwarding the case to the district attorney’s office.
