Dwayne Norton Hospitalized in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 70 [Blairsden, CA]

Blairsden, CA (December 18, 2021) – Yesterday, 51-year-old Dwayne Norton of Portola and 57-year-old Joseph Laurie of Beckwourth, sustained injuries in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 70.

The traffic incident happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection with State Route 89.

Laurie in a 1999 green Jeep Cherokee was stopped in the northbound lane of State Route 89.

At the same time, Norton, in a 2004 black Honda Pilot was eastbound on Highway 70 approaching State Route 89.

Laurie saw the eastbound vehicle ahead of the Honda Pilot turning right onto southbound State Route 89. 

However, he did not see Norton approaching behind the first vehicle.  Laurie began to drive forward into the intersection directly in front of the Honda Pilot.

Norton did not have any time to slow and collided into the left side of Laurie’s Jeep Cherokee.

Immediately, the rescuers rushed Norton to Renown Medical Center by ground ambulance, and  air lifted Laurie to the same hospital.

When driving, better to scan the road 1/2 mile to a full mile ahead in order to look out or recognize potential hazards in time. Our bodies weren’t designed to travel at 50mph.
