1 Hospitalized after Sacramento Police Chase Ends in Crash into CHP Patrol Car
SACRAMENTO, CA (October 9, 2019) — A DUI-related chase ended in a crash into a CHP patrol car at Power Inn Road and Elder Creek Road Tuesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred at about 1 a.m. The Sacramento police officers attempted to stop a driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. However, the driver did not stop and sped away.
Several officers then pursued the suspect. At the same time, a CHP officer was driving through the intersection and saw the police chase approaching.
The officer attempted to drive out of the way, but the suspect’s vehicle slammed into the patrol vehicle. The suspect was reportedly driving with their lights off.
The CHP officer did not sustain any injuries. On the other hand, the authorities took the suspect to the hospital for evaluation. They subsequently arrested and booked the driver into jail after release from the hospital.
As the officers investigated and crews cleared the scene, they closed the intersection of Power Inn Road and Elder Creek Road until about 4:30 a.m.
