Suspected DUI Driver Arrested after Pedestrian Crash near Western Avenue

HOLLYWOOD, CA (May 27, 2019) – A suspected DUI driver caused temporary road closure after hitting a fire hydrant and a pedestrian on Hollywood Boulevard.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Station, the incident happened at about 10:30 PM. The suspect vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant before colliding with a pedestrian near Western Avenue.

The fire hydrant broke away from its mount, causing the water to flow. Firefighters temporarily shut down Hollywood Boulevard to shut off the hydrant and to initiate clearing operations. Meanwhile, emergency responders transported the unidentified pedestrian to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI. It is unknown whether or not the suspect sustained injuries in the collision. Additional information will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.

Do not attempt to drive when under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Driving under the influence is not only illegal, but it is also dangerous. If possible, reach out to a family member or a friend to come pick you up.
