Hector Castillo Arrested after DUI Crash on Sierra Highway in Canyon County

Canyon Country, CA (December 22, 2023) – On Thursday afternoon, a pedestrian died in a DUI crash on Sierra Highway.

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian on Sierra Highway near Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country.

The pedestrian, a resident of Canyon Country, was running westward across Sierra Highway. Simultaneously, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on Sierra Highway in the No. 1 lane at a speed of 50 miles per hour, just south of Arline Street, according to officials.

“For unknown reasons, (the pedestrian) ran directly into the Chevrolet Silverado’s path of travel,” Greengard said. “Due to (the pedestrian’s) failure to yield the right-of-way to vehicles upon a highway, (the pedestrian) was struck by the front right of the Chevrolet Silverado.”

Upon receiving the call, members of the CHP, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s, and Los Angeles County Fire Departments promptly responded to the scene.

Sadly, at around 6:10 p.m., the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, though initial CHP reports suggest he is an adult resident of Canyon Country.

During the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the Silverado was under the influence at the time of the collision.

Hector Castillo, 38, from Newhall, was subsequently arrested for felony DUI.
