Driver Fatally Hurt in Los Banos Wrong-Way Accident on Highway 152

 
LOS BANOS, CA (June 18, 2019) – A wrong-way accident on Highway 152 in Los Banos claimed the life of a driver on Monday, June 17.
 
California Highway Patrol said that the crash happened at around 1:56 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Highway 152 near Patton Road.  It occurred between Los Banos and Dos Palos, according to CHP officer Adam Tova.
 
Officials received a call of a wrong way driver driving east in the westbound lanes of Highway 152 at Ward Road.
 
Minutes later, the CHP Los Banos Office received another report that the vehicle was in a head-on crash on the highway, west of Patton Road.
 
The wrong-way driver, an unidentified female, drove a car in the westbound left lane of the highway. Then she reportedly crashed head-on into a silver Honda vehicle moving west, said Tova.
 
The impact of the incident tore the wrong-way vehicle in half, Tova said. The front half rested in the median and the back half blocked the left lane.
 
The crash also caused the Honda to crash with a big rig moving in the right lane.
 
The wrong-way driver died at the scene, according to Tova. Paramedics airlifted the female driver of the Honda to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for unknown injuries. The male driver of the big rig didn’t report any injuries.
 
Officials closed both lanes of Highway 152 for around an hour before they opened the right lane. The left lane was opened at about 4 p.m.
