60-Year-Old Driver Killed in via Rancho Parkway Rear-End Crash [Escondido, CA]

Escondido, CA (June 18, 2023) – On Friday, a 60-year-old driver from Encinitas tragically lost his life following a Via Rancho Parkway rear-end crash.

The fatal collision unfolded at about 10:45 p.m. near Lomas Serenas Drive, north of Kit Carson Park.

Apparently, officers were responding to complaints about the party in a neighborhood when a white Dodge Charger almost collided head-on with their patrol vehicle. Then, minutes later, an officer spotted the Charger speeding on Via Rancho Parkway toward Interstate 15.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the 17-year-old male driver ran a red light and accelerated to more than 100 mph. The Charger then rear-ended another vehicle.

Moreover, the authorities extricated the driver of the other car and rushed him to a hospital where he died. The authorities withheld the identity of the driver pending notification of his kin.

The 17-year-old driver from Escondido fled the crash scene but was later. Police took him to a hospital with minor injuries. The teen driver faces several charges including vehicle homicide, felony evading police, and driving under the influence.

In the meantime, the authorities are working to identify the host of the party to determine if that person bears any criminal liability for serving alcohol to the teen suspect.
