FRESNO, CA (January 14, 2019) – A driver was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 99 at Ashlan Avenue in Fresno.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 1 a.m. Saturday. The unidentified driver drifted off to the east shoulder of Highway 99 and hit the rail. The vehicle was then launched into the air and crashed into the concrete overcrossing pillar at Ashlan Avenue.

The driver was thrown out of the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries, officials said.

The crash is still being investigated. It is being determined whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
