Pickup Truck Crashes into Parked Flatbed Truck, Sparking Fire on Highway 160 in Rio Vista
RIO VISTA, CA (August 25, 2019) – A driver was killed in a fiery crash with a parked flatbed truck early Sunday morning on Highway 160.
The crash happened around 3:53 a.m. at Sherman Island Road.
According to the CHP, the driver of a Nissan Frontier pickup was traveling northbound on Highway 160 south of Sherman Island Road. For unknown reasons, the truck slammed into the disabled and unoccupied flatbed truck in the shoulder.
Both vehicles slid down an embankment and became engulfed in flames. The flames spread to nearby vegetation and charred about half an acre, according to the CHP.
Fire personnel responded and pronounced the Nissan driver dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
It is unknown how fast the Nissan was traveling at the time of the crash and if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Further investigation is underway.
