One Dies, One Critically Injured in Big Rig Crash on State Route 318
Ely, NV (February 09, 2021) – On Sunday, a driver died while another was critically injured in a big rig crash on State Route 318.
The fatal incident took place at about 8 a.m. 70 miles south of Ely.
Apparently, a truck hauling three trailers of diesel fuel was traveling north on the highway. For reasons still unidentified, it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.
As a result, it sideswiped one oncoming semitrailer and crashed with a second semitrailer head-on.
Unfortunately, the northbound big rig’s driver died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the sideswiped truck’s driver was not injured in the accident.
Responders took the driver of the truck that was struck head-on to a hospital in St. George, Utah. The driver sustained life-threatening injuries.
Moreover, 6,000 to 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel were spilled at the accident scene. It caused significant delays while crews worked to clean it up.
