Jeep Driver Dead in 2-Vehicle Crash on S 16th Avenue [Yakima, WA]

Yakima, WA (January 30, 2025) A 55-year-old Seattle man was killed in a 2-vehicle crash on S 16th Avenue Wednesday.

The traffic accident happened on January 29 on West Washington Avenue.

YPD said a 2014 Jeep Wrangler, driven by the 55-year-old Seattle man with a 30-year-old female passenger, also from Seattle, was stopped at the intersection.

Suddenly, they were rear-ended by a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 29-year-old Toppenish man, who failed to stop.

Both of the vehicles went out into the intersection.

Sadly, the 55-year-old Jeep driver was killed at the scene while his passenger was rushed to Yakima Multi-Care Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the Cherokee driver and his passenger were rushed to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rescuers later booked the Cherokee driver at the Yakima County Jail, being found to be driving with a suspended license. 

Investigators determined the driver showed signs of alcohol impairment. YPD believes excessive speed also played a role in the collision.
