Police Investigate Crash on Loop 202 in Gilbert

Gilbert, AZ (November 27, 2024) – A driver arrested after a crash on Loop 202 involving several vehicles. 

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that a driver near Loop 202 and Williams Field Road crashed overnight after firing a gun at troopers attempting to stop the vehicle for speeding.

The incident began Tuesday evening near Loop 202 and Power Road, where troopers observed a sedan traveling at an excessive speed. 

When troopers tried to pull the driver over, he refused to stop. At some point during the pursuit, the driver fired gunshots at the troopers, but fortunately, no one was struck or injured.

The driver continued fleeing, eventually exiting the freeway at Williams Field Road. 

There, he lost control of the speeding car and collided with three other vehicles. 

DPS officials quickly apprehended the driver and transported him to a hospital with minor injuries. 

Once released, he is expected to face multiple charges and be booked into jail.

The civilians involved in the crash reportedly suffered either minor injuries or none at all. DPS is continuing to investigate the incident.
