Male Suspect Detained after Hit-and-Run Collision on 196th Street in Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD, WA (April 30, 2020) – Late Saturday morning, authorities arrested a male driver after a police pursuit on Highway 99.

The incident began around 11:30 a.m., when dispatchers received reports about a man who tried to strike a woman’s car. He then tried to run over the woman herself at the 76 gas station on the corner of 196th Street SW and Highway 99.

When the authorities arrived, the female victim said that she doesn’t know the man and that he had been swearing.

Officers later located the suspect in his van near the Joann’s Fabric parking lot. There, he declined to speak with officers and fled the scene. In doing so, he struck one officer and the front end of his vehicle.

Two police vehicles were damaged. However, the officers remained uninjured.

Officers pursued the suspect as he headed south on Highway 99, but the chase ended a short time later in a strip mall parking lot when several police vehicles pinned in the suspect’s van.

The 46-year-old man from Seattle was then detained on suspicion of third-degree assault, eluding, hit and run, reckless driving, and malicious mischief.
