William Ainsworth Killed, Others Injured in Merced County Crash
Merced County, CA (October 05, 2021) – On Friday, 64-year-old William Ainsworth of Dos Palos dies, while W. Ainsworth Jr and others, suffered injuries in Highway 152 vehicle crash.
The fatal incident took place at about 8:38 p.m. at the intersection with Palm Avenue.
Investigating officers said 51-year-old Avenal man, Pedro Rambia, was southbound on Palm Avenue trying to cross eastbound Highway 152. He was driving a 2018 Kenworth two-axle semi-truck pulling a set of doubles loaded with tomatoes.
At the same time, 38-year-old Visalia man, W. Ainsworth Jr., was driving a 2021 Toyota Camry east on the highway with two passengers.
As the Toyota approached the big rig, Ainsworth Jr braked and turned left to avoid the vehicle.
However, the crashed with the middle of the big rig’s second trailer and was trapped beneath it.
Rambia, thought that his truck suffered some sort of mechanical issue and pulled to the right shoulder of the highway to inspect the vehicle.
After exiting the vehicle, Rambia saw the Toyota trapped under the trailer and called for responders.
Unfortunately, the right front passenger, William Ainsworth, died at the crash scene.
The Toyota’s right rear passenger, 57-year-old Joseph Molina, of Visalia, sustained minor injuries. Rescuers took him to Memorial Hospital in Modesto.
Meanwhile, rescuers took Ainsworth Jr. to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Officers said Rambia did not suffer any injuries in the fatal crash.
Moreover, investigators said that neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the accident.
