Fiery Crash on Durango Drive in Las Vegas Kills 3 Family Members and the At-Fault Driver
LAS VEGAS, NV (December 26, 2019) – Four people died in a fiery crash late Thursday afternoon in the western Las Vegas Valley.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m., at the intersection of Durango Drive and Desert Inn Road.
According to police, an eastbound 2016 Mazda 6 was recklessly speeding on Desert Inn Road when it struck the center median. It then lost control and rear-ended a 2017 Dodge Journey carrying five people at a red light.
The crash was so violent that the vehicles were pushed through the intersection before erupting in flames. A third vehicle also caught fire.
As a result, three people in the Dodge died at the scene. An online fundraiser has identified them as Donna Martinez, 48; Amanda Martinez, 28; and Layla White-Martinez, 4. They were members of three generations.
Donna Martinez’s son, 17-year-old Emilio Martinez, and another granddaughter, Destiny Martinez-White, 10, were also in the vehicle and were injured. Paramedics transported them to University Medical Center in critical condition.
The at-fault driver, a 39-year-old Las Vegas man, was also killed in the crash.
In total, seven vehicles were damaged but no other injuries were reported, police said.
