2 Killed in San Diego Car Accident on Buckman Springs Road

SAN DIEGO, CA (February 20, 2020) – Two individuals passed in a DUI car accident on Buckman Springs Road on February 18.

Authorities later sentenced 27-year-old Ryan Gary Renz of East County to life in state prison following the deadly crash southbound of Buckman Springs Road and Lake Morena Drive.

Renz was found guilty of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The Deputy District Attorney’s Office revealed that Renz drove drunk, and was at a speed of 100 miles per hour when he crashed. He was also on probation, driving on a suspended license for a prior DUI, prosecutors added.

CHP stated that the two passengers, Dillon Cody Wiltfong and Johnny Ray Meyer Jr., both Campo residents, died in the crash. Meanwhile, Renz only sustained minor injuries.

Apperently, Renz, Wiltfong, and Meyer drank throughout the afternoon prior to the accident on Buckman Springs Road.

“Dillon was in the army. He was a specialist,” Wiltfong’s mother said when addressing the public.

The judge later noted that Renz showed genuine remorse. Renz addressed the courtroom at his sentencing.

“Before this accident, I was irresponsible and reckless,” stated Renz, “I’ve made huge mistakes throughout my life. I will change myself to be the man Dillon and John want to see.”
