1 Dead in Oceanside Auto Accident on State Route 78 and College Boulevard

OCEANSIDE, CA (July 14, 2024) – Saturday morning, a devastating vehicle crash on State Route 78 and College Boulevard killed 1 person.

The incident occurred just before 9:50 a.m. on eastbound State Route 78 and College Boulevard exit.

Aerial footage reveals the vehicle in pieces in the parking lot of the ampm convenience store at 3804 Plaza Dr.

The Oceanside Fire Department and multiple police units responded to the scene. Fire officials indicated that the vehicle had plowed through a homeless encampment on the side of the highway. After a thorough search, crews confirmed that no one in the encampment was injured.

Authorities confirmed that two individuals were in the vehicle during the crash. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Their condition remains unknown at this time.

San Diego County HazMat was called in to monitor for any hazardous materials released due to the crash’s proximity to a gas station. Fire officials assured that the area posed no immediate threat.

The investigation is currently being managed by CHP.
