1 Dead in Buttonwillow Auto Accident on Highway 43 and Panama Lane

BUTTONWILLOW, CA (October 26, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, a devastating head-on crash on Highway 43 and Panama Lane killed 1 person.

The incident happened at 12:15 p.m. on Highway 43 north of Panama Lane.

According to reports, a 42-year-old Bakersfield man drove a Kia Sol on southbound Highway 43. Then, a semi-truck was driving north on the highway at about 57 mph.

For reasons still unknown, the driver of the Kia Sol, who failed to wear a seatbelt, veered into the northbound lane directly in front of the semi-truck. As a result, the left front of the Kia Sol and the right front of the semi-truck collided.

The impact sent the Kia to spin out and overturn on its side.

Meanwhile, the semi-truck stopped on the west shoulder.

After the crash, responders declared the Kia driver dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Moreover, the authorities shut down State Route 43 just north of Panama Lane and the State Route 58 junction after the crash.

Also, the authorities haven’t clarified whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with information about the crash to contact the CHP in Buttonwillow at 661-764-5580.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
